The process to handmade, high fired stoneware

Wood fired stoneware. Most pots are made on kick wheel, a few built by slab work, coiling or pinching.

The process ….

All the clay is prepared by hand, right from pounding the different clays to sieving, slaking & drying. After the making of clay comes mixing of the clay which is called wedging. The form is shaped either on the kick wheel or by building slabs or by coiling.

The next is the drying of the pots & then they are bisque fired upto 900 degrees centigrade.

Once bisque, they are strong enough to be glazed by hand. All the glazes used are lead free. Then they are again fired, this time upto 1280 degrees.

Sanding down the fired pots and voila! they are ready to be lived with.
